So, I'm wearing my new suit right now. It's boring and black. ("But it's a nice black!" my roommate told me, to try and make me feel better.) I don't like suits, especially black ones. I'd like to have pink, tweed ones, or purple plaid ones, but if you have those, you still have to have the black suit. So here I sit, with my black suit that I got for my birthday. That's right, I had to waste my birthday present on a black suit. Boo! The only nice thing was that the woman at Ann Taylor thought it was to be an interview suit for after I graduated from college ... little did she know that that happened nigh on five years ag0 (I'm old so I can say things like "nigh" and it's totally fine.)
The first time that I went suit shopping, at that same Ann Taylor, was right as I was graduating from college (did I look like I was graduating from high school?) and I tried on the suit and I came out of the dressing room and I looked in the mirror and ... I burst into tears. I looked like a little kid playing dress up. It was awful. This man waiting for his wife to finish in the dressing room totally laughed at me.
Hindsight it was pretty funny.
My Wolverine Action Figure is at home, he nicely didn't comment on my suit ensemble. I guess his momma taught him: "If you don't have anything nice to say ... don't say anything."

I'm going through that right now... I graduate this December and it's time for big girl clothes now. I went to a job interview and I had to wear black dress pants and a blouse and felt ridiculous the entire time. I was longingly looking at a classmate's bright red hair streaks today as well. Time to grow up, I guess.
The good news is, sometimes, if you work at the right place, and long enough to get the vibe there, you can get away with doing crazy stuff to your hair. My hair has been blonde, black, and brown with streaky red and work is just fine with it.
Then again, I also get to wear jeans and sneaks everyday if I want to.
Sometimes being grown up can be fun too!!! And sometimes, the paychecks make it even more funner!
So jerseygirl, what's the reason for the suit? Thought you were back in grad school.
Happy (belated) birthday!
It's funny, I always dreamed of an office job where I could rock a power suit Amanda Woodward style (well, maybe not that short...), and even bought something like it when I graduated high school. Then I got an office job where everyone wears jeans and t-shirts. The suit, she sits in the closet still waiting to come out.
